A person or expert in your field that you admire

Ruth Fulton Benedict  (1887-1948)

She was an American anthropologist and folklorist, lived and developed her work in a very difficult time for women, seeking to position herself in an academic world that apparently only belonged to men.

In my opinion, within all the wonderful contributions of this woman to anthropology, I deeply remember that she has implemented a vision that was not evolutionary, but rather implied the particularity of each culture in its ends and means, without going through comparisons between them.

Since there are such diverse cultures, applying the same concepts or the same expectations is somewhat biased.

I like Benedict very much because I think he made a great advance for the time and because he managed to play a very relevant role in anthropological study, despite how complicated it was to insert himself into a world of men.

There are many anthropologists who cause me a lot of admiration and it really was difficult for me to decide, since I believe that the role of women in the world of social sciences has always been invisible and because they are women, it has cost them a lot. more to have a place of appreciation and respect within academic writing. I think it is essential to remember that his work exists and that it is wonderful. I stay with Benedict because I really admire her.
